What Sennel records, and what stays yours.
Plain language, for students, instructors, and the people who approve pilots. Pilot terms are agreed in writing with each institution; this page describes how Sennel works.
What is recorded.
The assignment document, while a student is working on it.
- Text typed, revised, and deleted in the assignment document, in order, with its time.
- Text that arrived from outside the document, such as a paste, with its time and size.
- When writing started, paused, and resumed.
- The exact file at submission, sealed to the record above.
The record starts when a student presses Start paper and ends at submission.
What stays the student's.
Everything else on the computer.
- Other documents and files.
- Other applications, and what happens in them.
- Browsing, messages, and passwords.
- Anything on the computer outside a writing session.
Who sees it.
The instructor for the course, and the student for their own submission.
Instructors
See the review brief and the replay for submissions in their course, and record their decisions there.
Students
Receive a receipt at submission and keep their own copy of the exact file they submitted.
Your institution
Sets who else may see a record, for example an integrity office during an appeal, under its own policy.
Sennel
Operates the service and supports pilots. Records are used to support your course and your institution's decisions.
Where it lives, and how long.
Records are stored for your institution, and retention and deletion follow your institution's rules.
Before the first assignment in a pilot, we agree in writing on consent, on how long records are kept, and on how they are deleted. Those terms are yours to set, and they travel with every record the pilot produces.
Ask us anything.
Write to hello@sennel.net. Privacy, security, and accessibility questions from an institution get a written answer.
